AGLOCO Viewbar is now available!!

The much anticipated and LOOOOOOONG-waited AGLOCO viewbar is now available. Go download it here and start earning some cash!

Here are the instructions from the email I received tonight:

1. Go to the AGLOCO website at https://www.agloco.com/c/portal/login and login to get to your Member Account page. There is now a "Download the Viewbar" button on that page.
2. Simply click the Viewbar download button and follow the download directions. Please click "Run" when offered to Run, Save or Cancel.
3. You will need to enter your Account ID# (or email address) and your AGLOCO account password to activate your Viewbar.
4. After you download the Viewbar, you can launch it for first time by going to your Windows Start Menu and clicking on the AGLOCO Viewbar Icon.

If too many Members are downloading at the same time you may not be able to get immediate access to the Viewbar (a "timed-out" or "no access" page may appear). If this happens, please try again after a short while. If you have a Norton firewall you may be asked to allow access to "viewbar.exe" and "update.exe" (please check "Permit Access Always" for proper installation of the Viewbar).

The Viewbar is currently available for Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista and will work with IE (Internet Explorer) or Firefox browsers. When ads start to appear on your Viewbar, please be aware that the Viewbar ad targeting system will not be fully active at first (this will not impact your accumulation of AGLOCO hours).

If you encounter any problems during the download process, please send your questions to help@agloco.com so that we can assist you.

Need Some Bead Bling?

Joe, over at Building Your MLM, Network Marketing Business asked me to give a little "shout out" to his wife's online business, Bead-Dazzle.com.

Tammy has an interesting collection of lanyards and necklaces that she designs and creates herself. Very nice stuff; great for gifts or for your own collection!

Joe and Tammy are also expecting their first, so I'm sure they will be needing some serious diaper money very soon!

Thankfully, my baby days are WAY behind me...

AGLOCO Viewbar Will Suck?

Kumiko over at Kumiko's Cash Quest, weighs in on the AGLOCO Viewbar... and surprise, surprise! she doesn't like it. She does provide some analysis and a good mock-up of how she thinks it will look on her blog.

As we have previously established, Kumiko is not a big fan of AGLOCO. She is now also NOT a big fan of Google Adsense - she's been banned due to violations of the usage agreement. So I'll let you decide which way you wanna roll on this one...

Good ol' Kumiko, shaking things up...

Tough at the top

You think you hate your boss? Here's why he hates you! This is from England so it's chock full of words, like pub, loo and mum, but other than that it's a fairly good assessment of what drives your manager crazy. My manager is a fair guy. He hates us all equally! Just kidding... our problem child left the company not too long ago.

The Great About Page, or How I Learnt to Blog, Correctly

Mr. Philip Liu tells me I should have an "About" page that roxorzz (heehee, l33t speak ftw!)... so I copied his... Well, not really, but I did use it as a "template" if you will. Only thing is, Blogger doesn't really have an "About" page, per se (INSIDE JOKE ALERT - an homage to a co-worker), so this post and the "About this blog" section over there -> somewhere, will have to do for now.

Hello! My name is Roy and I am publisher of "Musings and Somesuch... that is all..." I am lifelong resident of Texas, the last 21 1/2 years in the DFW area. Before that I lived in west Texas - Seagraves and San Angelo, TX to be exact. My background is in computers, servers, networking and a little finance - at one time, I had my series 6, 7 and 63 brokers licenses. I am married to my beautiful wife of 24 years; we have three kids - two sons (19 and 17) and a daughter (13). We also have three dogs, that I had nothing to do with acquiring.

Musings and Somesuch... that is all... is a blog about many aspects of my personal and professional life. This includes my love for all things Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys, gadgets, technology, geekdom and just about anything else. Yeah, I'm kinda random like that... I like to describe myself as a jack-of-all, master of none! I play a mean game of Trivial Pursuit, because I know a lot of useless shtuff; I'm the kind of guy you want on your team when you play Battle of the Sexes or Fact or Crap. I'm a real peach - just ask my wife! I'm just hoping people like my randomness, but it sure doesn't fit well with the marketing pablum - you know "identify your market", "know your readers", "find a niche", etc. But I still hope to engage you because I really do KNOW a lot about a lot. Ok, so that sounds like a bunch of BS, but it's true - sorta, maybe! Well, I'll try anyway...

There has to be room out there in the "great blogosphere", the "wide, wide world of web", the "internets," for a blog like this. I hope you like what I have to say and I hope you leave some comments and suggestions. Hey, no one's perfect; me and this site are from it!

Much ado about nothing? A rant by any other name...

I work in IT for my company. I am, by title, a Sr. Network Engineer - but I guess, you would have to describe my job as a Microsoft Windows Server administrator... well, I do a lot more than administer (administrate?) the servers.

Anyway, this coming weekend is the beginning of daylight savings time, otherwise known as DST. In the government's infinite wisdom, it was deemed necessary to extend DST starting this year. Thus, DST starts three weeks early and ends a week later than it has in the past. Now keep in mind we have had DST for years now, but many "Chicken Littles" in the industry are crying "Y2K!", which, if I recall correctly, was a big bunch of nothing...

Last weekend, my wife's work completely closed down their e-mail infrastructure to apply the DST patch. Their IT director actually used the term "Y2K" to describe the impact of this event. I laughed... loudly. Mind you there were special considerations and a certain order for patching Exchange, but a whole weekend? Give me a break. It was their close weekend and it really put a bind on the groups that are responsible for closing the books. At my wife's suggestion, they had to implement a "phone bank" in order to communicate with each successive group to do their tasks to close. Poor planning and execution, if you ask me.

This weekend, we are required to come in to work at 1:00 a.m. to make sure that there are no issues from the time change... READ THAT AGAIN! Yes, we are required to come in and verify that each server has changed time. Here's the deal people:

WE HAVE HAD DST FOR AS LONG AS WE HAVE HAD COMPUTERS.
We have had TIME CHANGES before; in fact, TWICE every year. The only difference is that it starts earlier and it ends later... that is ALL. Oh, sure, there COULD be problems... like an appointment is off by an hour, or something similar, but how many of you know of someone who was late to church, or even late to work on the following Monday, because they didn't change their clocks. It happens...

So here's the deal: Treating this event, that happens twice a year, every year, like it is a big deal is ASININE. Should you be prepared? Yes, absolutely, no question. But requiring people to be at work for the time change or requiring that your email system be down A WHOLE FREAKING weekend is really, really dumb. And equating the event to Y2K is down-right idiotic, to say the least.

Casual Games Are The Rage

A good article on how Microsoft is now jumping in on the "casual gaming" phenomenon. If you'll pardon the self-promotion, over on the right side is an ad for BigFish Games. Here is a great opportunity for you to jump on this bandwagon, if you will. Joe, over at Building Your MLM, Network Marketing Business, hooked me up with this he has enjoyed some success with it. This is my first active promotion of this product, but I plan to do more. If your a casual gamer, or know someone who is, head on over there or forward them this post. Have some fun and enjoy!

Wirefly... if your in the market for a cell phone

At the moment, I am not. But I certainly like to look. If I were in the market, Wirefly is definitely the place I would visit. Wirefly is carrier agnostic so it doesn't matter who the carrier is, you will be able to find a phone to your liking at an incredible price. Now if you are like me but still have a current contract, Wirefly is still a good place to look for a new phone because they can upgrade you at a great price by extending your contract! A great selection and a great price make for a nice combination. Right now, I'm using the Cingular 2125 and it does everything I need it to do, including all PDA functions like Calendar, e-mail, to do lists. It features a camera that does stills and video and a media player, for those times when I don't have my iPod with me (rarely!). Right now, you can actually make $50, after rebates, on this phone.

Review: John Chow dot Com

So in my journey that is this blog, I have come across various sites and articles of interest. One site that I have come across several times is John Chow Dot Com. This is my review of his site. As with any review, my hope is to be unbiased and fair. So here we go...

John Chow Dot Com is an exceptional site that provides a ton of ideas for business, blog monetizing and Search Engine Optimazation (SEO). Out of literally thousands of sites, John's really stands out due to his sincerity, objectivity, creativity and character. At least that is what comes across to this reviewer, and I hope that was the intent. He is also humorous and provides personal glimpses into his life that really make you feel like he's just one of the guys - a regular joe, made good. I think this "window into my life and and success" style is a key element to his ability to draw an audience.

As with anything, the site is not perfect. Mainly, I wish John would hire an editor or fire the one he currently uses. There are a few spelling errors as well as context and grammatical errors. It may be nit-picky, but quite frankly, these types of errors show a certain lack of professionalism or carelessness. In addition, John's writing style does not scale well to the inexperienced user or someone new to blogs. He tells you to do something, but expects you to figure it all out, which can be hit or miss for the newbie. All in all, these flaws DO NOT detract from the content, which is why this site is highly recommended. I hope you find the content to be as helpful to you as it was to me.
